Conservative

It is the treatment of the diseased tooth (caries, fracture, abrasions, erosions).
A failed filling leads to the progression of the cavity which inevitably leads to the involvement of the pulp and, consequently, to the need for devitalization of the tooth or, in cases extremes, to tooth loss.

To always guarantee a clinically safe and aesthetically satisfactory result, the use of silver amalgams, which had a mercury content, has been progressively replaced by "composite" materials, which due to their adhesive characteristics allow a preparation of the carious cavity less extensive than previous standards.
